Polytech Mons University of Mons UCL The Multitel research center was created in 1995 on the initiative of the Polytechnic Faculty of the University of Mons (with support from the European Regional Development Fund). At the time, the center's activities focused mainly on computer networks, photonics, voice technologies and signal processing. In 1999, Multitel became an "Approved Research Center" in the form of a non-profit association (ASBL), while maintaining very close links with the University of Mons. In the context of inter-university cooperation, a team from UCL joined the center in 2000, to extend its skills to image processing. Since 2008, driven by a desire to diversify, Multitel has also established itself as a key player in the railway sector, and has acquired the status of an accredited independent laboratory for ERTMS certification in the railway signalling sector. With a view to continuing its growth and offering even more services to SMEs, Multitel opened new offices in Tournai in March 2013. Since 2016, Multitel has also been present in the EuraTechnologies ecosystem in Lille. In early 2020, Multitel also moved to Charleroi, becoming a member of A6K, a shared multidisciplinary center dedicated to engineering sciences.
