As an LGBTIQ+ individual living in a country that criminalizes homosexuality, I have been refused work and faced many workspace discrimination. As I was researching for my thesis for Master's degree in Design Management & Entrepreneurship, I was able to understand that many LGBTIQ+ individuals are refused work globally, and face workspace discrimination/stigma. Companies/countries are incurring high economic losses due to discrimination & stigma in workspaces. However, there are many companies that are looking to hire diverse teams as it's proven to be more productive & efficient. This is when I realized it is my purpose to bridge this gap and remove friction in this area of LGBTIQ+ online recruitment & freelance recruitment using DeepTech.
Proud Co. Lab idea came to me in September 2021, and I've been working on refining and developing the idea together with AOD start-up School. My lecturer Carol Holdsworth - Marketing, Communication, and Sales consultant for startups, supported with refining the pitch deck and connecting me with other experienced professionals from around the world and partners specifically with SEs.
I've been an LGBTIQ+ rights advocate for the past decade, creating awareness of LGBTIQ+ rights in Sri Lanka & India. I've gone through many ups and downs during the past decade & managed to overcome each obstacle without giving up my identity or my dreams.
I graduated in BA Visual communications University of Northumbria in 2012 and I founded Sri Lanka's first skateboarding brand Push Skateboards in 2012. Push was ranked Top 10 in the Venture Engine start-up ecosystem. I was also the Sri Lankan nominee for the “Asia-Pacific Young Entrepreneur Award 2016 Taipei, Taiwan ” awarded by CACCI.
In 2016 I founded KiCo. Design Studio, a company that revolutionized the design industry and content creation in Sri Lanka with a clientele of brands such as Nike, SCEYE, Mercedes Benz Fashion Week, UNDP, save The Children etc;
I'm a Social design Entrepreneur who always wanted to give back to my community. I have been able to empower the LGBTIQ+ community of Sri Lanka and create a community of Skateboarders in Sri Lanka through my previous ventures and projects. My next goal is to empower the LGBTIQ+ community on a global scale through ""Proud Co.Lab"" and I believe that is the way forward!
As my mentor says "" The skills Hash possesses apart from unique creative talent is the ability to inspire others, see the big picture, make things happen, handle high-pressure situations & deliver. "" Linda Linda Speldewinde, Founder & Chairperson - Design Corp Group of Companies Founder & Chairperson - Design Corp Group of Companies
I'm here to deliver, chase my dreams & inspire a generation to be true to themselves, to not give up their dreams even though we belong to a minority.
